From the Pastor’s Desk
Dear Beloved Members of Zion Full Gospel Church
I am into my sixth year of ministry with ZFGC and I like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your prayers and support.
Time had passed us very fast and we are now in the third month of the year 2010. After two years of having our worship services at GV Great World City and facing the challenge of diminishing attendance and fellowship, we are now back in our church building. I am thankful that the strong fellowship among members has become more evident since we return. Yet, the question I would like to ask all of us is, do we look with anticipation and expectancy to what God can do in and through us, so that we can see growth for this year?
Both Pastor Joyce and I believed that our presence here in Zion is not by accident. Though orchestrated through many circumstances that brought us to this church, it is our conviction that nothing happens to Gods child by accident. They are all ordained for His purpose and for His church.
Like all pastors who have their dreams and passion, so have I. I have three that I would like to share with you.
Firstly, as a shepherd, I want to see myself providing good pastoral care. I cannot properly lead the flock unless I know my sheep very well. That explains the reason why there are times I would call and request a meeting for fellowship. To me being personal is very important. I like to know you better and pray along with you. Yes, I may not have all the answers but I do cherish the privilege of being able to offer you my comfort and my prayers. God is your ultimate answer but his servant is the tangible expression of His care.
Secondly, if you may recall, the first time I address this congregation, I said that Prayer is the engine room of the church and I still believe that it is today. ZFGC has a good long year of a regular weekly Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting. While many churches have cut down on them because of low attendance, our church has persevered till this day but I would like to see growth in attendance for our prayer meeting. It is my firm conviction that the health of the church is the result of her praying congregation. Each week we have a regular attendance of only 20 25 praying for the needs of the church. What happen to the rest? How I wish every husband and every wife could be present to pray together; every son and daughter and parent praying together; every grandparent and grandchild praying together; every young man and woman praying together.
My dream for this church is to build a family of worshippers. Our foremost priority is not about programs but prayer as our foundation. We can do a lot of things be it in outreach, social concerns and many of us do them very well. However, if our prayer lives are absent or weak and we try to do things using our intellect and talent, we do not see much result. The reason is obvious - spiritual work cannot be accomplished by the flesh. We need spiritual empowerment and that comes by our spending time in the presence of God worshipping him in spirit and in truth.
Jesus our Lord emphasized that in John 4:23: Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seek.
Thirdly, the church is a family and in a family there must be unity. We must be one in our vision, belief and purpose. This years theme for our church is RUN TO WIN.
The Christian life is a journey and all of us are involved in this race to win the prize. No runner runs with a mindset to lose he runs to win. As a church, we are on the winning side because we belong to the One who cannot lose but the day to day victory is our responsibility.
The first thing we must win is our service for God. Everyone is busy nowadays and the work of God is left to the faithful few who continue to serve. If we want to be a winning church, we must give attention to our service in the church. There are departments in the church that are in need because there is so much to do. Some for the lack of manpower have doubled up in their responsibilities and that, to some extent, have affected the efficiency of the church as a whole because there is so much to do yet so little help. This is Gods church. It is also our church. Our goal and desire is to honor God in everything we do and everyone is important to build his kingdom together.
I am sure you already know that the pastor does not work alone. I work alongside with the elders and the deacons and members of the different committees and most of all, you, our beloved church members. Do remember to uphold us in your prayers. Pray for our work, our ministry, our family and above all our Christian testimony. We are living in the times where the Christian testimony is under attack. Your prayers and participation will go a long way in making the difference.
